5 Natural Remedies for Yeast Infections

Many believe that yeast infections happen only to women, but men too can contract this itchier-than-god fungus that is unrelenting enough to drive a sane person to the brink of insanity.

That said, the vagina is yeast's favorite home; sorry ladies. Let's start with a few precautions to keep yeast from making you its happy, proliferating home.

  • Stay dry, especially towelling off all your bits after bathing or showering.

  • Stay loose, in terms of pants and tights.

  • Stay natural, avoiding underwear that are made from synthetic fibers and bodycare products with fragrance, alcohol and other chemicals.

  • Rethink contraception and antibiotics.

  • Make sure both sexual partners are free-and-clear (tested) of yeast to avoid a hot-potato scenario.

  • Avoid foods that feed yeast such as sugar and refined foods (such as white flour).

  • And lastly, avoid routine douching.

Now, if the window of prevention is long gone and you're suffering from a yeast infection (make sure you get this diagnosed, because other conditions can carry similar symptoms), then here are some super easy home treatment options that have been found to help.

Plain yogurt

The good bacteria in plain yogurt helps fight yeast, but make sure you get plain, unsweetened yogurt. Yogurt can be used both internally and topically.

Garlic

Garlic is yeast's nemesis. For instant relief, you can insert one all-natural garlic tab or a garlic clove into the vagina every few hours or as needed for relief. Inserting a clove at bedtime and removing it in the morning works well. Sure, this sounds weird, but letting your yeast proliferate will lead to utter agony. You can also take your garlic internally, a tab or munch on some cloves. Yum.

Apple-cider vinegar (with the mother)

Add about a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bathwater, and take a nice long soak. Make sure your vinegar has the mother, and be sure not to use plain, white vinegar which will actually feed the yeast instead of killing it.

Water

Drink purified water, and a lot of it!

Oil of Oregano

Take this herbal oil daily, according to the bottle's directions. Look for an oil that has a high carvacrol content, as this is the active ingredient that fights yeast.
